The five arrows tied with a scarlet ribbon and the pine branches are taken from the authorized state crest. Also incorporated is the states motto, Live Free or Die. The nine-sided figure refers to New Hampshire as the ninth state to enter the union and its configuration on the top of the mace reflects New Hampshires nickname, The Granite State. Blue and gold are the colors used in the state flag and seal.
